While the federal government hands out the most financial aid, individual states (along with the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories and possessions) are close behind. Each year, states award more than $5 billion in grants and loans to their residents who are interested in working on a college or graduate degree. Even better, we've provided links, so you can go directly to your state's web site; you'll find everything you need to know there about scholarships, fellowships, loans, grants, and other funding offered by your state.
Tip: After you check the state where you live, be sure to visit the web sites of any state where you currently attend college or are interested in attending college. You'll find leads to financial aid for you in both places!
