Widener University, which is a former military college, has established 4 full scholarships for children whose parent was killed in action in either Iraq or Afghanistan. These scholarships are worth $25,000 a year and are awarded to each recipient for up to 8 semesters.
The first scholarships will be awarded to students starting college this fall. The program is administered by Scholarship America. Mark Malmberg, a spokesperson for Scholarship America, said he was not award of other college scholarship programs like this one.
Tip: There are, however, hundreds of scholarships awarded by private and governmental sponsors to the children of veterans and current military personnel.
