March 1 Deadline for Federal Financial Aid

15 Jan 2005

Are you or your child planning to go to college this fall? Then, don't procrastinate. The priority deadline for filing federal financial aid forms is coming up. Most colleges require that families submit the FAFSA and PROFILE financial aid forms by March 1.

You may still be able to get federal aid, even if you miss this priority deadline. But, you are likely to get less aid than if you got your forms in by March 1.

Even if you think you can't qualify for federal aid, fill out the forms anyway. Skipping these forms could have a long-term impact on your overall costs. That's because many colleges and private organizations won't award scholarships to students who have not fill out these forms.

Tip:  After you finish filling out the federal financial aid forms, be sure to look for other scholarships that may be available to you. To find out about thousands of non-governmental funding opportunities offering billions of dollars, turn to Reference Service Press's line of award-winning financial aid directories for undergraduates, particularly Kaplan Scholarships.
