Affirmative Action Partially Upheld in College Admissions

26 Jun 2003

The Supreme Court has issued its final ruling on the University of Michigan's affirmative action case. Voting five to four, the Supreme Court ruled that while race can be considered as a factor in admissions at public institutions of higher education, it is unconstitutional to assign "points" to applicants based on racial background.

While considered to support the current affirmative action law, the decision does limit the application of race in the admissions process.
