Colleges Award More Scholarships

1 Aug 2004

In a recently-released report, the National Center for Education Statistics noted that between 1995 and 1999 colleges awarded more scholarships than ever before.

But, the increase did not benefit all levels of students equally. Higher-income students received more of the new funds than lower-income students--at both public and private institutions. This percentage growth held true for middle-income students as well; the number of scholarships they received increased by 3% compared to only 1 to 2% for lower-income students.
