According to a new report issued by the Institute of International Education (IIE), more students than ever before are receiving credit for study abroad.
Compared to the early 1990s, the number of students studying abroad has more than doubled, from 71,154 to 166,920 in the 2001-2002 academic year. In fact, the number of students receiving credit for study abroad in 2001-2002 was 4.4% greater than the number for the previous year.
Interestingly, these students have been choosing less traditional study destinations. Among the countries with the largest increases in for-credit study are China, Japan, and the Czech Republic.
