Arizona Tuition to Jump 50%

26 Jul 2004

Proposed tuition rates in Arizona would push undergraduate fees 50% higher than they were just two years ago. In fact, the new rates would represent a nearly two-thirds increase in just five years (compared to 42.7% at other universities during the same time period).

Also up for consideration: different tuition rates for Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University (in the past, the rates had always been the same) and increased fees for resident halls.

If the proposed increases are accepted by the Arizona Board of Regents, tuition would rise to $3,923 at ASU, $3,998 at UA, and $3,983 at NUA. It should be noted, however, that even if these increases are approved, tuition in Arizona will still remain lower than at most other state universities in the country. The new rates would be comparable to those at the University of Oklahoma, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the University of Colorado-Boulder.
