Award Winners


Harold W. Tuckett, reference/instruction librarian and coordinator of online search services, University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Carla J. Stoffle, associate director of libraries, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor are recipients of the fist Reference Service Press Award presented by the American Library Association's Reference and Adult Services Division.

Tuckett and Stoffle are the first recipients of the Reference Service Press Award, established to recognize the most outstanding article published in RASD's membership journal, RQ, during the preceding two volume years. Criteria include originality, timeliness, rigor of research, quality of writing and relevance to RASD areas of interest and concern.

The winning article was "an effective and concise presentation of a review of bibliographic instructions theories; a valuable overview for the practitioner, the student and the educator; and a wealth of published and other resources to consult for further information," according to Linda Beaupre, award jury chair.

Reference Service Press is a library-oriented reference book publishing company specializing in the preparation of financial aid directories. Its president, Gail Schlachter, is an ALA councilor who has served as reference book review editor of RQ for eight years.
